EPL Roundup | Tottenham Hotspur outclass Manchester United; Liverpool thrash West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur continued their unbeaten home run on Sunday when they outclassed Manchester United 2-1 to finished runners-up behind Chelsea which secured the Premier League title last week. Elsewhere, Liverpool thumped West Ham 4-0 to hand Jurgen Klopp his biggest win in 2017.

Tottenham 2-1 Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur were clearly disappointed at losing the title to Chelsea last week but the Lilywhites did not allow that to affect them against United. However, Jose Mourinho rested key players against a strong Spurs at the White Hart Lane.

United's defensive play took a hit when Victor Wanyama headed past David de Gea in the sixth minute through an accurate Ben Davies cross to put the home side ahead. Harry Kane doubled their lead when he deflected a Christian Eriksen free kick behind the goal line in the 48th minute for his 22nd League goal.

Spurs conceded a goal against the run of play when Anthony Martial beat Kieran Tripper on the wing to fire in a pin-point pass to Wayne Rooney who tapped it in with ease. This was Tottenham's last game at the Whitehart Lane stadium and the fans invaded the pitch after the final visit to bid the stadium goodbye. Manchester United is still eyeing to get into the Champions League by winning the UEFA Europa league final scheduled on May 24th.

It was Spurs last match at White Hart Lane stadium (they shift to the Northumberland Development Project next season) and their fans invaded the pitch after the final whistle to bid the stadium goodbye.

United, meanwhile, are hoping to seal a Champions League spot by winning the UEFA Europa League final on May 24.

West Ham United 0-4 Liverpool

Liverpool were heavily criticized for their lacklustre show in 2017 but the Merseyside Reds bounced back with authority when they defeated West Ham United 4-0 to strengthen their chances of a top-4 finish.

Phillipe Coutinho struck a brace and an assist that opened the scoring for the away side. The Brazilian was scintillating with his footwork as he cut through the West Ham defence with ease. Coutinho picked up the ball in his deep midfielder role and slid a beautiful pass to Daniel Sturridge in the 35th minute who fired in the opener. Coutinho then got his name on the scoresheet twice as he scored his brace in a span of 4 minutes to triple the visitors lead over West Ham. Diviock

Crystal Place 4-0 Hull City 

Hull City slumped to a 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace to be relegated from the Premier League. It was a heartbreaking scene for Hull fans as their players went on their knees disappointed after the final whistle.
