Goals from Prashant Kalinga, Lamgoulen Hangshing, and Asheer Akhtar handed Bengaluru FC ‘B’ their first win in the 2nd Division League as they overcame Chennaiyin FC 3-1 at the SSN College Ground, in Chennai. Prosenjit Chakroborty pulled one back for the hosts in the final minute of the game.
The win took BFC B’s tally to 4 points from two games and propelled them to fourth place in Group C standings of the competition behind TRAU FC (7), Langsning FC (7) and Mohammedan Sporting (6).
Going into the second-round encounter, Coach Naushad Moosa made three changes to the line-up, handing starts to Lalengzama Vangchhia, Biswa Darjee and Lamgoulen.
With both sides battling it out in the midfield for majority of the first half, BFC ‘B’ custodian Aditya Patra pulled out some fine reflex saves, before the Blues finally broke the deadlock in the 40th minute. Having earned a freekick on the edge of the box, Robinson Singh curled it in from the right to find Altamash Sayed at the far post. The midfielder’s first-time effort was blocked by the 'keeper, but fell tp Kalinga, who scored from close to put the Blues 1-0 up.
Lamgoulen got his second of the campaign as the Blues doubled their advantage in the second minute of first half injury time. The striker timed his run well to latch onto a pass from Robinson, firing home from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 going into the break.
The Blues kept the tempo going in the second half and almost scored a third at the hour mark only to be denied twice by Chennaiyin ’keeper Sayak Barai. He first stopped a shot from Lamgoulen after the striker was sent through by Lalengzama, and from the resulting corner it was the latter who was denied by the custodian.
The Blues kept on knocking the door and finally got their third goal two minutes from the full-time whistle. Kalinga made a run down the right flank and cut it back for Asheer on the edge of the box. The defender controlled the ball and smashed it into the top-corner with a thunderous effort to make it 3-0. Bengaluru were however denied a clean sheet when the hosts’ skipper Prosenjit pulled one back in the second minute of injury time from a set-piece.
The Blue Colts head back to Bengaluru, where they host Jamshedpur FC Reserves in their third game on April 11 at the Bangalore Football Stadium.
