Manchester City has confirmed that Riyad Mahrez has finally joined the team for the next 5 years. Although the club did not disclose any information about the actual transfer fee to get Mahrez, some media reported that the club has to pay at least $79.6 million, which is a record even for the club.
The 27-year-old player said that he chose to move to Manchester City to build a better career. He once helped Leicester to claim the Premier League title back in 2016 and now, with City, he hopes to at least earn some extra silverware. His transfer is quite shocking, however. Some media reported that City would at least wait for several months before they decide to get such an expensive player. Even mainstream betting platforms where people come and play sports betting, including online cricket betting, thinks the same.
At least, with him in the team, Guardiola will have more talented players under his wing and therefore, higher chance to win more titles. Getting Mahrez is probably Guardiola’s suggestion after all. When he was still with Leicester, he scored 48 goals in 179 matches. As for Mahrez, he believes that his aggressive style is a perfect match for Guardiola’s aggressive style. On top of all, he always seeks to join City, which he describes as a team who successfully redefines English football.
Last time, Mahrez earned the famous PFA Players’ Player of the Year award after scoring an astonishing 17 goals in 37 famous league matches. Thanks to his incredible performances, Leicester shocked the world by winning the prestigious the Premier League title in 2016.
Actually, City had been trying to get him in since January this year, but Leicester’s valuation forced him to stay in the club until this month. It may take months for City to get Mahrez, but they never stop trying. Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City’s Director of Football said that Mahrez will increase the team’s attack quality, at least.
The France-international player joined Leicester around 5 years ago in 2013. His incredible performance brought the club to eventually win the Premier League title in 2016. Thanks to him, Leicester managed to escape the relegation zone and win a game after another until he decided to leave the club and join City this month.
