Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that Harry Maguire can make a massive impact at Old Trafford. The 26 year old arrived for a world-record fee this summer after an arduous transfer saga that took up most of the window, joining Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

Manchester United’s top priority this summer always seemed to be Harry Maguire, with the big Englishman linked insistently with a move before taking the plunge. Eventually, Manchester United shelled out a world-record sum for the 26-year-old, a move that has shattered Virgil Van Dijk’s fee and could even soar past it.

However, while there have been a few doubts whether or not he’ll fit their plans this summer, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refuted all that. “I’m delighted we have got Harry in because he’s going to be great for this club. He was always my number-one target, says Solskjær.

"Of course, it took some time but it does occasionally. I more or less made my mind up when we played Leicester that if it was possible to get him we should get him or at least try to. He is so composed on the ball and gives the team another dimension.

"He has already shown what a presence he will be. He’s a leader, an established international, a goal threat and a very good defender – but also a very composed ball player. I don’t want to compare us. But I know Harry is going to have a massive impact on us.”
