Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has claimed that Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne is in a league of his own with Christian Eriksen being miles behind the Belgian. The two sides faced each other in a controversial draw but the Belgian dominated the battle of the two midfielders.

In the battle of the playmakers, former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood believes that Kevin De Bruyne in this vein of form is in a league of his own. The Belgian put on a show last night and dominated proceedings in the first major clash of the league. While Gabriel Jesus’ ruled out goal did dominate the post-match talk, Kevin De Bruyne was the star of the first half.

The 28-year-old already has three assists to his name in the campaign so far, after providing goals for both Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero. That has seen Sherwood gush about the former Chelsea playmaker and even went on to say that he is miles ahead of his Tottenham counter-part Christian Eriksen.

"We talked about Eriksen before the game and how important he is to Tottenham, and we think he's a world class player. But if you're talking of world class, he's nowhere near the level of this kid. This kid Kevin De Bruyne is top, he could play anywhere in the world, he is the most valuable player at this moment in time for Manchester City,” Sherwood said in an interview with Optus Sport.

"He pops up everywhere. He's so important to this side, they won the league last season without him for a large portion, that is a huge plus. He keeps himself fit, I don't see anyone stopping him, he is unbelievable."
