Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that the Premier League has made a mistake by closing the summer transfer window early. The North London side had a decent transfer window, but problems have now appeared in the form of Real Madrid, with the Los Blancos chasing Christian Eriksen.

Mauricio Pochettino believes that the Premier League have made a massive mistake by closing the summer transfer window early, with top six sides now vulnerable. While the Premier League window has closed for any incoming players, clubs can still sell players with the European transfer window open till the September 2.

This has caused a few problems for a few clubs, namely Manchester United and Tottenham, as both their players have been linked with moves away. Both Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen have were top targets for Real Madrid over the summer, but the Los Blancos have finally settled on the Danish midfielder.

Recent reports from the Daily Mail have indicated that the La Liga giants are keen on a cut-price move for the 27-year-old midfielder after he rejected a brand new lucrative contract offer from Spurs. This has caused a few issues for Tottenham and has seen Pochettino subsequently say that he hopes that the Premier League, Daniel Levy and other clubs realise the mistake that they made.

“I wasn’t in agreement [with the early close of the Premier League transfer window] but at that moment they believed that was best for the clubs. But I think he and a lot of people now realise it was a massive mistake. I hope that we fix the problem for the next season. I think we need to go back and operate in the same way that they operate in Europe because I think it’s massive when you go to compete in the Europa League or Champions League.

"Champions League teams can create problems in a team like us and it’s so clear that I cannot be happy as a coach that in the last three or four weeks that certain clubs from Europe can unsettle your team. For me it’s not common sense and we need to go back quick, hope they have a good conversation at the Premier League and go back quickly [to how it was],” he said to the Telegraph.
