David Luiz has opened up on why he left Chelsea for Arsenal this summer, in an £8 million deadline-day move. The 32-year-old, who made his debut for his new side in a 2-1 win over Burnley on Saturday, went on to talk about everything that went through his mind before choosing the North London side.

David Luiz has finally opened up on why he left Stamford Bridge in a shocking move to their London rivals Arsenal this summer. The 32-year-old completed a sensational move for a mere £8 million fee on deadline day arriving alongside former Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney. However, it is Luiz’s move that has made shockwaves, with few fans and critics expecting the Brazilian to move.

"I am a guy with ambition and that is why I moved. I like a new a challenge and new things in my life. This is what gives me oxygen and gives me motivation and also to really enjoy this moment. I could have chosen a comfortable zone and got money and be cool and that is it,” Luiz told the BBC.

The 32 year old joined Chelsea in January 2011, winning the Champions League, the Europa League and the FA Cup in his first spell before departing for PSG. He then returned to Chelsea in 2016, going on to win the Premier League, Europa League and another FA Cup before his move this summer.

"Everyone knows I was so happy at Chelsea and won many trophies there. I had a real honest conversation with Lamps, and Lamps had different ideas for his plans for the year. So the best way for me to respect the club where I can was to move on, try a new challenge and give him the opportunity to do his job. My philosophy on life is to be positive and to be a dreamer. I have my health, I can dream and we can fight for something big," concluded the former PSG star.
