For the first time since February 2018, India slipped outside of the top-100 in the latest FIFA Rankings update which was released on Thursday. The Blue Tigers dropped from 1240 points to 1219 which saw Sunil Chhetri & Co. drop to 103rd in the rankings after the departure of Stephen Constantine.

The Indian football team were left shattered after they suffered a last-gasp 1-0 loss to Bahrain in their final group stage encounter of the 2019 AFC Asia Cup in the UAE last month. After starting off their tournament by thrashing Thailand 4-1 in the opening game, India lost the second match to hosts UAE by 2-0 goals. However, Sunil Chhetri & Co. just needed a draw in the final league match against Bahrain to secure a spot in the knockout stage. But it was not meant to be.

Their dream of playing the knockouts was shattered by Jamal Rashid in the first minute of stoppage time as the middle-eastern player converted the penalty kick to give his side a crucial win knocking out the Indians in the process.

That unfortunate loss has seen India drop six places in the latest FIFA Rankings released on February 7. The Blue Tigers' points tally has gone from 1240 to 1219 which has seen them drop to 103rd place in the FIFA rankings table. The last time India were outside of the top-100 rankings tally was back in February 2018.

Meanwhile, 2019 Asian Cup champions Qatar made giant strides in the rankings. Their maiden title has seen them gain 38 places to move up to the 55th place in the latest update, their best position since 1993. Japan moved up 23 places to 27th spot while South Korea moved up 15 places to the 38th position on the list. Iran continue to remain the highest ranked Asian team at number 22.
