Debabrata Sarkar, representing East Bengal's executive committee, has said that a cumulative decision has been made to take part in the Super Cup, and asked its sponsor - Quess to support them. However, Quess chairman had earlier backed the I-League clubs in their withdrawal from the tournament.

There have been various twists and turns with regard to the participation of I-League clubs in the Super Cup, and a dispute between the East Bengal FC executive committee member Debabrata Sarkar and Ajit Isaac, chairman of Quess Corp, is the latest development. Earlier, there were reports that East Bengal was a part of the association of the other seven I-League clubs, who had decided to boycott the Super Cup over their protests against the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

"We have unanimously decided to take part in the ISL and the Super Cup. We will send a letter to our chairman Ajit Isaac to convey the decision," said Sarkar, after a meeting of the committee, as reported by IANS.

"We have several requests from former players and fans who want the club to play in these tournaments. We will request Ajit Isaac to hold a meeting with us and discuss the issue. Hopefully, the tournament organisers too will respond within 48 hours.”

However, Isaac, on a news channel, had earlier said that "Some members of the EB club on the basis of a strange letter from the Football Federation have been involved in avoidable politics and we will not be drawn to that.”

The Chairman, who in the past had bailed out the club to help their revival,  had voiced out his support of the I-League clubs.

"Please work with us to help QEBFC (Quess East Bengal FC) and football in India to move forward. I want to thank all of you for your tremendous support and please note that we believe that QEBFC is a fantastic club with one of the best supporter base in the world. Together, let's make the changes to make QEBFC a world class club," the chairman said.

"We are here to play football at every competitive stage and will play the game with every effort possible when we know that the federation will provide a level playing field and a commercial structure that is sustainable."

The Round of 16 of the second edition of the Super Cup is scheduled to be played from March 29, where East Bengal is to face Delhi Dynamos in their first match on March 30 at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
