Gokhulam Kerala FC extended their winning run in the Indian Women’s League with a narrow 1-0 victory over FC Alakhpura in Ludhiana on Tuesday. In another match, Hans Women FC edged past Panjim Footballers 3-2 in a thrilling encounter, with their striker Anushka Samuel scoring twice.

Coming from a 5-0 thrashing of defending champions Rising Student Club on Sunday, Gokulam Kerala were a confident bunch and they recorded their second straight victory against a resilient FC Alakhpura side who played largely defensive and attack on the counter.

Alakhpura’s plan looked to be going just fine in the first half with Kerala hardly creating many chances, but teen sensation Manisha rose to the occasion in the second half to give her side a 1-0 win at the Guru Nanak Stadium on Tuesday. She was looking dangerous throughout the game as she came close to scoring prior to her goal at the 71st minute, which was a thumping header.

It was her fourth goal of the tournament as she went back to being the top scorer of the league, where she is tied with Sethu FC’s striker Sabitra Bhandari of Nepal. Alakhpura also had their chances every now and then but the best one came at the end when Jyoti beat the offside trap to break free off Gokulam’s defence. However, with only keeper Linthoi to beat she could hit it right at Linthoi from close range.

The other match of the day was Hans Women FC taking on Panjim Footballers at the GHG Khalsa University Ground. And unlike the first game, this was a high scoring affair. The scoring was opened by Anushka ho gave the lead to her side after just 30 minutes before Panjim striker Karishma Shirvoikar cancelled it after scoring from a brilliant Jeromina Colaco pass.

The match was far from over and Anushka scored her second to keep it open just after the second half started, although even that was cancelled by Karishma’s spot kick. Finally, Jyoti Ann Burrett scored in the 80th minute which couldn’t be cancelled as Hans Women FC won all the three points.
