Mohun Bagan appoint Spanish native Kibu Vicuna as new head coach

Mohun Bagan have announced the arrival of Spain’s Kibu Vicuna as the next head coach of one of the oldest football clubs in India ahead of the start of the 2019-20 season. Vicuna was earlier coach of Wisla Plock in the Poland First Division league 'Ekstraklasa' and will succeed Khalid Jamil.

Earlier today, Mohun Bagan announced the appointment of 47-year-old Spanish coach Kibu Vicuna as their new head coach ahead of the start of the 2018-19 season replacing I-League winning coach - Khalid Jamil. Vicuna, who is a UEFA Pro Licence holder, was earlier a coach of Polish first division side Wisla Plock in the 'Ekstraklasa',

"We have spoken with Kibu and he is happy and excited about the challenges of coaching in Mohun Bagan.

"Kibu has the ability, knowledge and experience. He promotes young players and has a style and a way of working similar to ours. He has a philosophy of the game that is very much like Mohun Bagan's philosophy and is a hard worker. Also, he is passionate about applying advanced technology to both training and matches," Mohun Bagan FC directors, Srinjoy Bose and Debashish Dutta, said in an official statement.

The Spanish native has a wealth of experience as a coach in Spain and Poland and he also won the Polish League and the Polish Cup in 2012-13 as part of Legia Warsaw coaching staff. He was also an integral part of Legia Warsaw coaching team that bowed out in the final playoff round of UEFA Champions League and subsequently played UEFA Europa League group stage in 2013-14.
