Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Tottenham need to learn and improve from their current situation if they ever want to succeed. The North Londoners have endured a terrible start to the season and have won just four games in all competitions with three of those coming in the league.

Ever since their incredible loss to Bayern Munich, Tottenham’s run of form has been far from impressive despite a win against Red Star Belgrade. The North Londoners lost to Brighton away from home and then barely managed to scrape a draw against rock-bottom Watford with a late goal from Dele Alli. Things could have been much worse for the club and while they do sit five points off the top four, Mauricio Pochettino still has faith in his players.

The former Espanyol manager went on to admit, in an interview, that he believes in his current side and knows that they have what it takes to find their way out of this rut. He also added that the club needs to help the players to be in an environment that helps them in a situation like this and they need to always be optimistic no matter what their results on the field are.

“I am more relaxed and more calm than I was five years ago. I am a coach and a person that doesn't really feel the pressure or the stress. I love to have different experiences in my life and of course, if you win, it is easier but when you don't win, you need to stay calm and show the balance too. This is a situation we use to learn and improve, and to enjoy too, because it is football and the drama of football is not the drama of life, that is why we feel very responsible. We care a lot about our job, the football club and our fans but most importantly, it is a game,” he told Sky Sports.

"We cannot relate the pressure to the players, we cannot create an environment that they don't feel comfortable in. We always need to help them to be in an environment that can provide calmness, be together always because when we need them to perform in the best way, they can, only if they feel freedom and not the pressure.”

Tottenham somehow reached the Champions League finals last season despite their self-imposed transfer ban. While critics and fans have put it down to a lucky run to the final in Madrid, the North Londoners did well beating Ajax, Manchester City, and Borussia Dortmund. But Mauricio Pochettino went on to add that he had a five year plan for Tottenham, which is now over, and their main objective is to play Champions League football every year.

"In football, you always need to be ahead in your strategy. It is not thinking about what you need tomorrow, it is about what you need in two, three, four or five years. I think that is the key and our vision when we arrived here was to make a plan to arrive into the new stadium and to play in the Champions League. For me, I wanted us to finish after five years with the plan we created back then.

"Then you need to create another strategy and it is so important to have a clear objective. Now, our objective is to improve our performance in the way that we want because we have the quality. It is going to take time, but we have the capacity and the quality to perform as we want,” concluded the Argentine.
