Gameweek 4 is nearly over and the managers are out in full flow for their post-match press-conferences. There is a lot to say with Manchester United being held to another draw, Manchester City handing Brighton a thrashing, Sheffield United producing a comeback and a few other results.
Manchester City
It was yet another commanding performance from Pep Guardiola and his men, with them dominating Brighton over the course of 90 minutes. It may not have been their best performance against the Seagulls, but even stuck in the third gear, City ground out a top-notch performance.
“The credit is for Brighton. They defended with five. They made it difficult for us in the build-up. It was the same as against Swansea last season. Sometimes the opponents have the courage and personality to play. They have quality and that’s why they created problems. We were there. Sometimes the opponent is good too,” said Guardiola.
Manchester United
The Red Devils may have started the game off very well, but the second half did not go to plan with Jannik Vestergaard grabbing a 59th minute equaliser after some poor defending. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a lot to say, with his main talking points focusing on the fact that his side should have killed off the game.
“I think we should have finished the game off at 1-0. We started the game well and created chances and spaces everywhere for Juan and Dan to run into and we dominated for 20-25 minutes, but we let them back into the game by not scoring the second and being careless and giving the ball away.
“I think we’re going in the right direction, we’re creating chances away from home against a team that wants to press and make it difficult for you.  Even after we made a couple of mistakes we still trusted ourselves to play our way out of it but we just couldn’t get the finishing goal,” said Solskjaer.
Liverpool
They may not have had the best start to the game, but once that first goal flew in, it was all Liverpool with the Reds eventually managing to put three past Burnley. However, the Clarets certainly gave them a run for their money in the first half, with Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood threatening the Liverpool goal time after time.
“I said it before, it was pretty much the best second-ball game we've played since I have been together with the boys. We were really there, we won pretty much all of the first balls, which is difficult enough against Barnes and Wood because they do really well there. Then being around, they have a good formation for the second balls.
“It was just amazing, [we were] using then the space for immediate passing, trying to be quick in our decision-making, we wanted to have direction immediately,” Klopp said.
Chelsea
The Blues started the game very very well and made the most of their chances, thanks to Tammy Abraham. However, nothing went their way in the second half, with Sheffield United eventually getting two goals back to level the game, late into extra-time.
“It is not the defence, it is conceding as a team so the lack of concentration or mistakes for the goals are moments when you defend as a team, as much as you attack as a team.  We concede because we switch off in a game that should be comfortably seen out at 2-0 up.
“That is not to disrespect Sheffield United, 2-0 is not the end of the story. I was clear with the players at half-time that this can either be 3-0, and okay then this could be nice, or a potential 2-2 on our hands and the disappointing fact is the first goal as much as anything because that allowed it to happen. We only have ourselves to look at as a group, not individuals,” Lampard went on to say.
