Ahead of the Asian Games, Sardar Singh has thrashed Virat Kohli's yo-yo test score by scoring 21.4 which is well ahead of the cricketer's score of 19. The test has been a controversial one in India after Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, and recently Ambati Rayudu were sacked for failing the test.

After being dropped by former hockey coach Sjoerd Marijne due to lack of pace on the turf, Sardar has been tirelessly working on his fitness ahead of the Asian Games which is scheduled to begin on August 18. He has put in a lot of effort in the last four months to ensure that he remains fit and gets the required pace on the turf. He has remained focus in increasing his stamina before the Asian Games.

“I looked at what Bolt did for speed, tried to follow what other top athletes do for strength. You just pick and learn. If I craved for Paranthas, I stuffed broccoli in it instead of potatoes. But I haven’t taken the liberty of eating such things a lot," Sardar told Indian Express.

For coach Harendra Singh, Sardar is the nucleus of the Asian Games squad which is brimming with confidence after their recent show at the Men’s Champions Trophy in Breda, The Netherlands where they finished second after losing to Australia in the shootout.

For the BCCI, yo-yo test is a mandatory parameter to get selected in the Indian cricket team. It is a gruelling fitness test that involves intense running drills between two cones where an athlete's pace, endurance, and stamina is tested. Sardar’s previous score in the test was 21.3.

The minimum score in yo-yo test set by BCCI is 16.1 while it is much higher for the Australians and Englishmen where they qualify only after recording a score more than 19.
