Rani Rampal believes experience will be the key to India's success in womenâs hockey World Cup
Indian womenâs hockey captain Rani Rampal has claimed that her team has got the experience needed to do well in the upcoming World Cup 2018 to be held in London between July 21 and August 5. The Indian team is grouped in Pool B alongside the Olympic gold medalists England, USA and Ireland.
The Indian womenâs hockey team is ranked 10th in the world currently and will be facing the English team in their first encounter on July 21. Before the team left for the World Cup, skipper Rani mentioned about having an edge over others from the experience perspective. She spoke about the teamâs growth and how the team is confident of doing well in the World Cup.
âBarring three to four players, almost everyone in the team has had good International exposure. Many of them have more than 100 or 150 International caps for India,â said Rani.
âEvery player has grown from strength to strength and I am confident that we will do well in the World Cup.â
The Indian womenâs hockey team last played in the World Cup back in 2010 where they finished 9th. Apart from Rani and Deepika, no other player in the current squad has never played a World Cup before. Rani revealed that every player in the team has been waiting for this moment ever since they won the Asia Cup last year.
âThe team is extremely excited and we have been waiting for this moment for the past one year post our victory in the Asia Cup. It will be a first time experience for almost every player in the team at the World Cup,â added Rani.Â
