The senior player, who plays as a forward, will most likely miss out from the squad of the upcoming Hockey World Cup in India due to an injury. Recently SV Sunil was not picked in the squad whereas PR Sreejesh was relieved from captaincy for the Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Oman.

Preparations for the Hockey World Cup, which are to be held at Bhubaneshwar, are in full swing. From getting the Kalinga Stadium a new Hockey Turf to making the venue ready for the World Cup everything is progressing well with co-operation of the state government of Odisha and Hockey India.

However, there is a bad news for India amidst all the smooth sailing. With 198 appearances for India at the International level, the veteran forward SV Sunil has been injured and the injury is not expected to heal before the World Cup.

“He was advised not to stretch his runs on the new turf, which is still settling in and a bit slippery. But during one of the training drills, while trying to take a reverse hit, at the end of his sprint, he banged his knee into the ground," sources told TimesofIndia.com

"The initial assessment here in Bhubaneswar isn't promising and his World Cup seems to be over before it began. He will soon be flown to Delhi for a final call, but it's highly unlikely that he will recover in time." the source added.

India play the Asia Champions Trophy in Oman before the Hockey World Cup. The squad of the Champions Trophy saw some major changes after India missed a chance to qualify for the 2020 Olympics by failing to bring the gold at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
