Indian women’s hockey skipper Rani Rampal is of the belief that the team will go into the FIH Women’s Series Finals with a lot of confidence that they gained from the recent foreign tours. The FIH Series Finals in Hiroshima will be the first step towards Olympic qualification for the Indian women.

Just like the Indian men’s hockey team, the Indian women will be competing in the FIH Series Finals in Hiroshima, Japan, to earn an entry in the FIH Olympics Qualifiers which will be held later this year. As a part of their preparations for the important tournament, the team had travelled to Spain, Malaysia, and Korea in the last few months to gain more exposure. 

Ahead of the tournament, India skipper Rani has stated that the tours gave the team a lot of confidence ahead of the major competition.

"We go into this tournament with a lot of confidence we carry from our recent tours in Spain, Malaysia and Republic of Korea. Our performance has been on the rise over the past year and the fact that many of us have been playing together for quite a few years gives us an edge," Rani was quoted as saying by Hockey India.

India are grouped with Poland, Uruguay, and Fiji in Pool A while 18th Asian Games Champions Japan, Chile, Russia and Mexico are placed in Pool B. The women’s team had qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics after a long wait of 36 years and they will definitely want to book a place in the next sporting extravaganza as well in Japan.

"It was the first time that India had ever qualified for the Olympics in Women's Hockey. We did create history but we certainly don't want it to be a one-off qualification. Our team is capable of repeating it again and we will aim to finish on the top in this tournament," asserted Rani. 

India will take on Uruguay on June 15 in their first game of the FIH Series Finals. India will have to finish within the top two positions and play the final in order to qualify for the Olympic qualification event.
