Rohit Kumar named Bengaluru Bulls captain for the 5th season of Pro Kabaddi League

Bengaluru Bulls named star raider Rohit Kumar and defender Ravinder Pahal as the team's captain and vice captain respectively.The fifth season of the Pro Kabaddi League is set to kick off on July 28th and will feature 12 teams playing 132 league matches over a three-month period.

Rohit Kumar had been brilliant for Bengaluru Bulls in the 2016 edition of Pro Kabaddi, successfully raiding the opposition 75 times during the course of the league. Performances like that have seen him named the captain of the team for the upcoming season, according to reports in PTI. Star defender Ravinder Pahl was named the vice-captain of the team owing to his dazzling performance last year.

The Bengaluru Bulls have chosen to field a young and vibrant team this year, comprising players such as Harish Naik, Rohit, Gurvinder Singh, Ankit Sangwan, Mahender Singh, Preetam Chhillar, Ravinder Pahal (VC), Amit, Rohit Kumar (C), Ashish Kumar, Sachin Kumar, Amit Sheoran, Sinotharan Kanesharajah, Pardeep, Ajay Kumar, Sunil, Sumit, Sanjay Shrestha, and Kuldeep Singh. The young team will be supervised and mentored by former International player Randhir Singh who is also an Arjun Award recipient.

The fifth edition of the Pro Kabbadi league will feature four new teams which will take the tally of the total number of teams in the tournament to 12, who would be divided into two zones based on the new format. The teams will battle it out in intra-zonal, inter-zonal and wild-card matches before the top six teams qualify for the playoffs.

"I am humbled by the decision taken by the management and would like to thank them for believing in my abilities. We come with a fresh mindset and a young self-motivated team with a well devised strategy in place for this season," Rohit told PTI.

"We are training rigorously, placing a lot of importance on healthy diet that helps optimize our performance and we look forward to performing well and seeing a remarkable result this season."
