Gujarat Fortunegiants coach Manpreet Singh has said that his team ran out of patience on the last raid, where they had a Super Tackle opportunity, which resulted in the loss to Bengal. Gujarat lost against Bengal by a score of 26-28 after staging a comeback with four Super Tackles towards the end.
Gujarat Fortunegiants have now lost five consecutive games out of the eight games they have played so far. They lost last night’s match despite their best efforts and now are seventh on the points table. Gujarat, who suffered their third home loss in the game, was lagging behind after the first half ended thanks to the all-out they conceded early in the game. They managed to come back well in the second half despite being on the verge of another all out multiple times but four Super Tackles ensured they were able to stay in contention for the win.Â
“Our gameplan worked to perfection in the final few minutes and I’m happy how the team performed and how we got ourselves close to winning. Had we been slightly more patient in that Buzzer Raid, the match would’ve had a different outcome,” Coach Manpreet Singh said in the post-match press conference.Â
In defence, Sunil Kumar scored 6 points which included an incredible three Super Tackles, one of which was an astonishing solo effort before getting some help towards the end. The raiding department didn’t do too well, putting on just 15 points with Sonu and Sachin combining for 12 raid points.Â
“Honestly, I don’t feel we have a weakness or that a certain department cost us the game. All we need is a win to get back on track. We were beaten by an excellent team that is strong in every department. We are used to winning, as we should be, but right now we are in a tough situation. All it takes is one big performance,” coach Manpreet explained.
Gujarat could have won the game if they could have Super Tackled Prapanjan on Bengal’s last do-or-die raid but Vinod Kumar failed to get a proper hold on Prapanjan which effectively ended the game.
“Personally, I feel that the entire team played well. I made the tackles but they supported them to ensure we get those valuable points,” skipper Sunil Kumar said.
