Anish Bhanwala wins gold at ISSF Junior World Championship with record score

15-year-old Anish Bhanwala scored a record 579 points in the Junior men's 25m Standard Pistol Individual event to win the Gold medal at ISSF Junior World Championship yesterday. The teenager's accomplishment helped India claim the silver medal after finishing second in the overall standings.

Anish stayed seven points clear of the second best Florian Peter of Germany with 572 points who was followed by Ukraine's Pablo Korostylov with 570. On the other hand, Anish's teammate Anhad Jawanda shot 561 while Sambhaji Zanzan Patil shot 547 and the combined score of the Indian trio helped them bag a silver in the team category.

Earlier in the year, Anish won a gold and a bronze at an international meet in Pilzen, Czech Republic.

In the Junior Women's 50m Rifle Prone competition, India's Shirin Godara finished 21st with 615.9 followed by Prasiddhi Mahant(609.8) and Ayushi Podder(605.4) who finished 41st and 57th respectively.

In the other events of the day, Fateh Singh Dhillon finished 23rd with a score of 617.3 in the Junior Men's 50m Rifle Prone category while Subhankar Pramanick shot 615.9 to end in 29th position followed by Syed Araib Pervez in the 66th position with a score of 606.

India were placed second on the table at the end of day one with Norway at the helm with one gold, one silver and one bronze.
