Indian shooter Anjum Moudgil has claimed the silver medal in the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico. Moudgil helped India claim the eighth medal in the tournament in a tally that includes three gold and four bronze medals before this one.

The Indian shooting contingent, that is participating in the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, is on a terrific run as they bagged a total of seven medals in the tournament so far. 16-year old Manu Bhaker was particularly impressive as she bagged two gold medals to add the India's ever growing collection.

Moudgil managed to make it eight medals as she claimed the silver medal in the in the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event after she overcame tough weather conditions to shoot 454.2 in the 45-shot final. Moudgil finished behind former junior World Champion Ruijiao Pei of China who ended the event with a score of 455.4. Pei’s compatriot Ting Sun claimed bronze, as she finished with a score of 442.2.

Moudgil was in medal contention from the beginning of the final right up to the end of the 15-shot kneeling position as she stood third behind Ruijiao and Slovakia’s Ziva Dvorsak.

Moudgil managed to take the lead after the second 5-shot prone position series, which followed the kneeling position and was 0.9 points clear of German world number one Jolyn Beer at the end of the round.

Following the 15-shot prone series, Moudgil was still in the lead but unfortunately, after the 10th shot of the last standing series, she slipped to fourth position in the standings. A brilliant 10.8 in the 41st shot saw her jump to second and she maintained that position as she finished with scores of 10.2, 10.1, 9.5 and 10.2 to clinch India’s first silver medal of the tournament.

The Indian shooting team still lead the medals tally with eight medals (3 Gold, 1 Silver, 4 Bronze) while neighbours China are second and seem to be closing in with five medals for now(2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 bronze).

The Medal events at the ISSF World Cup resume on the weekend with three finals, the Men’s 3P, the Women’s 25m Pistol and Women’s Skeet scheduled for Saturday, as the World Cup is set to end on Sunday with the Men’s Skeet final.
