Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan has delivered a brilliant performance at the ISSF Junior World Cup which helped her in shattering the world record and bagging the gold medal in 10m women’s air rifle event. She also won the team gold medal combining with Shreya Agrawal and Zeena Khitta.

In the Junior ISSF World Cup in Sydney, Valarivan won the gold medal in her second World Cup participation. Playing her first final, the 18-year-old shot 249.8 in the women’s final to claim the top position and her 631.4 in the qualification was a new world record. Valarivan had also won a bronze medal at the FISU World Shooting Sports Championship last week.

India’s other participants, who entered the finals, were Shreya and Zeena but they finished at the sixth and seventh position respectively.

In a team event, the Indian squad performance was enough to clinch the team gold medal ahead of Chinese Taipei's Lin, Tsai Yi-Ting. Hung Chen-Ching. Zhu and Wang and Gao Mingwei of China managed to win the bronze.

Arjun Babuta managed his second junior world cup medal as he claimed a bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle event. He was a silver medallist in the last year’s Asian Championship in Waki City in Japan.

Surya Pratap Singh and Shahu Tushar Mane were the other Indian shooters in the event who finished at the sixth and eighth position respectively.
