India won two silver medals at the summer 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, thanks to the efforts of Tushar Mane and Tababi Devi Thangjam. While mane secured his medal in the Men’s 10 meter air rifle event and Tababi Devi Thangjam became the first athlete to win a medal in judo for India.

Devi had assured herself a silver medal after booking a place in the finals of the 44 Kg category event. And even though she was beaten by Venezuela’s Maria Gimenez in the final, she still walked into the history books by winning the country's first medal in the sport. The 2017 Asian Cadet champion Tababi, hailing from Manipur, lost out 0-2 to Gimenez, who is a Pan American U18 Championships gold medalist. Gimenez scored 1-0 on the ippon, 1-0 on waza-ari and Tababi was handed 1 penalty point.

Devi had outclassed Viktorija Puljiz of Croatia 10-0 in the semifinals having beaten Bhutan’s Yangchen Wangmo 10-0 (Round of 16) and Erza Muminovic of Kosovo (quarterfinals) in the previous rounds.

Indian shooter Tushar Mane bagged a silver medal in the Men's 10 air rifle event at the prestigious event. He ended up scoring a total of 247.5 points to finish second on the podium. In the qualification round, Mane had delivered 623.7 shot to assure a place in finals.

India has 46 athletes representing the country in 13 sports at the prestigious event catering to the youth. This is India’s largest contingent at the Youth Olympics. India won two medals — a silver and a bronze — in the last Youth Olympics in 2014 in Nanjing in China.
