Gaurav Rana claimed top honours in the men’s air pistol category at the National Shooting Selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Delhi on Monday. Sharvan Kumar managed to shoot more than the world record held by Saurabh Chaudhary but failed to finish at the top by 0.1 points against Rana.

It was a thrilling final day in the men’s air pistol event as Sharvan Kumar from Uttar Pradesh lost against Gaurav Rana from the Air Force by just 0.1 points. Sharvan, at one point during the game, was trailing by 0.6 points. However, the youngster managed to wipe out the deficit with shots of 10.5 and 10.7.

Ravinder Singh, who had finished at the top in the qualifying round with 585, finished at the eighth spot while Sarvan Singh finished third.

''Initially, my heart rate was high. But, once I settled down, I was able to shoot the best'', Sharvan said after the event, reported Sporstar.

Both the world record for the men and the junior boys in the category are held by India’s Saurabh Chaudhary at 245.0 and 246.3 respectively. The qualification score for Sharvan will also count as with the score of 581, he can now aim at making into the Indian contingent in the near future.
