India’s Elavenil Valarivan managed to win a silver medal in the 10m air rifle event at the ongoing World University Games in Napoli, Italy. In doing so, the 19-year-old also shot a record score of 630.8 in the qualification but eventually fell behind Lucie Brazdova who bagged the gold medal.

The three-time junior World Cup medalist, who is a product of Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation’s Project LEAP, has already caught eyeballs with her superior technique and calm nerves under pressure situation and lived up to the billing in Napoli.

In the qualification event of the 30th World University Summer Games, she shot a record score of 630.8 and eventually ended up with a score of 249. Her score had put her ahead Chinese Taipei’s Lin Ying-Shin (629.8) and Lucie Brazdova (628.1) of Czech Republic.

But, as luck would have it, Brazdova shot 1.3 points more than the Indian in the final to win the gold medal. “I am really thrilled with this achievement... I am happy and this win will give me great confidence going ahead into the Junior World Cup, Suhl,” said Elavenil, reported Scroll.

She would next be participating in the ISSF Junior World Cup 2019, which has been scheduled to be held in Suhl from July 12, 2019.
