India shooters warm up in national trials ahead of Asian Championships

Indian shooters wouldn’t get time to rest on their laurels after the World Cup feat as they would be competing in the sixth and seventh national selection trials in Tughlakabad. The strong domestic system put into place by the NRAI has started bearing fruits with India already reaching new heights.
Keeping an eye on the Asian Shooting Championships scheduled to be held in Doha and aiming to keep their shooters razor-sharp for the event, the Indian shooters would need to compete in the national trials held at the Dr Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, from Friday.
While it might be tiring for the rifle and pistol shooters, who have really been at the top of their game and a primary reason why India are atop the medals table in all the four World Cups this season in Delhi, Beijing, Munich and Rifle, one wouldn’t blame the system that has been massively fruitful so far.
The trials would follow national camps in Delhi and Bhopal and would also give chance for the other shooters to claim a spot into the national squad. Furthermore, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has also announced that they would revise the selection policy for next year.Â
It could see the sixth and seventh trials scores forming the basis for national selection, as opposed to the regular practice of taking the National championship scores into consideration. The national shooting federation had even postponed the closing date for entries until August-end in order to ensure that everyone eligible got into the fold.
The national trials would be starting with the men’s air rifle event, followed by the women’s air rifle, rapid-fire pistol, and the men’s rifle 3-position events. The Women’s sports pistol, men’s air pistol, and women’s rifle 3-position events would follow suit before they moved to the women’s air pistol on September 17 and concluded.
