With IOA withdrawing its proposal to appoint Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Chautala as its life presidents, the Sports Ministry on Friday kept its promise by revoking its suspension. The infamous duo did not receive votes during the IOA's Annual General Meeting as the proposal was unconstitutional.

“The government has decided to revoke the suspension of deemed recognition of IOA with immediate effect in the light of the corrective action taken by them in reversing its earlier decision making Shri Abhay Singh Chautala and Shri Suresh Kalmadi, life presidents of IOA,” the Indian sports ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The IOA, in its reply to the show-cause notice from the ministry, had claimed that even though there had been a proposal to make both the ex-IOA presidents as life presidents, it did not follow the constitutional rules or procedure and therefore was never voted upon at IOA's AGM in Chennai in December.

As such, the appointments were never formalised and the suspension was uncalled for.

“Since IOA has admitted the faux pas committed and regretted the inconvenience and embarrassment caused to all concerned, it is expected of IOA that it will uphold the highest standard of probity and ethics in its functioning in future,” the ministry added.
