Steven Smith has revealed that he has just tried and replicated the best in the game like Kane Williamson, Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers to improve his batting. The Australian captain has had one hell of a year with the crushing 4-0 Ashes series win over England being the highlight of 2017.

Steven Smithā€™s journey to the top of the ICC Test batsmen rankings has been a fantastic sight for neutral fans all over the world. The Australian captain rounded off a fantastic year, both as part of the Australian team and on an individual level after he was bestowed with the prestigious Allan Border medal recently.

Smith, who has been lauded for his unorthodox style of batting hasĀ stated that he just tried to imitate the likes of Kohli, Williamson and De Villiers amongst others, whomĀ he considers to be the best batsmen in the world.

ā€œI look at some of the best players around the world and sometimes I do try and bat like them. I just try and learn, and these guys are the best players in the world for a reason. So you try and get whatever you can out of them.ā€ Smith said in an interview to cricket.au.com.

Smith went on to recall Australiaā€™s tour to India at the beginning of 2017, where the young skipper faced a torrid time on the pitch. Smith explained how he had to change his grip in order to suit the sub-continental pitches in India.

ā€In places like India, for instance, I open my hands up a little bit. I donā€™t feel that I can get nicked off (caught behind the wicket) quite as easily in India as opposed to somewhere like Australia or South Africa. So I open up different parts of the ground,ā€Ā

ā€œSometimes it can be a bit difficult coming back from there (the subcontinent),ā€ Smith added, before concluding by saying, ā€œI actually forgot how I like to hold the bat when Iā€™m in Australia the last time I came back, so it might work for a while but it takes a bit of getting used to.ā€ he added.

Australia are now set to travel to the South African continent where a tough challenge awaits them. Smith has fond memories of the Rainbow nation for it was here in 2014 that he sealed his spot in the Australian team after an edgy start to the series four years ago. Steven Smith & Co. are set to play four Tests in South Africa, which will begin from March 1 at Kingsmead, Durban.
