India’s top women’s squash player Joshna Chinappa defeated the legendary Nicol David in the second round in the El Gouna International squash tournament. The 31-year-old stated that she wanted to play without pressure but still couldn’t believe how she overcame the former World No. 1's challenge.

Joshna Chinappa, who is currently the highest ranked Indian women’s squash player, stunned former World No. 1 and legendary Nicol David as she won the second round match of the El Gouna International squash tournament. The 31-year-old won in straight sets 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 in about 32 minutes as she caused a big upset.

The Indian squash player largely dominated the first couple of sets and took an early 2-0 lead. However, the Malaysian great came storming back as she took a 7-1 lead in the third set. However, Joshna didn’t panic and held her nerve to register her first ever win over Nicol David.

Joshna couldn’t believe how she pulled off this massive upset but one thing was clear that she wanted to play freely after a tough first-round game. She had started the tournament with a hard-fought 8-11, 11-8, 14-12, 11-4 win over wildcard entrant Rowan Reda Araby from Egypt.

“I don't know how I did it. I knew I had a tough first round, then Nicol in the pre-quarters, so I had no pressure and I just wanted to play freely and enjoy myself,” Joshna was quoted on the PSA World Tour website.

31-year-old Joshna will now play the winner of the match between England's Laura Massaro and Hong Kong's Joey Chan in the quarterfinal of the PSA World Series event. Dipika Pallikal Karthik was the other Indian in the fray in this competition, but she went down to France's Camille Serme 10-12, 7-11, 12-14 in the first round.
