Indian squash player Saurav Ghosal has made it to the pre-quarterfinal round of the PSA World Championship squash tournament in Chicago. On the other hand, another Indian squash player Joshna Chinappa lost in the women’s event to get knocked out of the prestigious world championship.

With Chinappa making an exit, only Ghosal remains as an Indian representative in the ongoing PSA world squash championship being held in Chicago.

In the round of 32, which was gone through on Sunday, Ghosal, the 11th seed, faced an initial resistance from the French opponent Lucas Serme but eventually won it with a degree of ease. The Indian won 13-11, 11-6, 11-8 with the contest going 48 minutes and made it to the pre-quarterfinal round. Saurav will meet unseeded Joel Makin of Wales in the next round of the tournament.

However Joshna suffered a shock. Seeded 14, she was swept aside by the Hong Kong 18th seed Joey Chan. Except for the first game which ran close, it was fairly straightforward for the HongKong player who won the women’s singles second round match by 12-10, 11-7, 11-7 points.

In their respective first round matches, Ghosal had won 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 against Switzerland’s Dimitri Steinmann while Chinappa defeated Ineta Mackevica of Latvia by 11-5, 11-3, 11-7 points.
