We want to have PSA events in India, says Cyrus Poncha

India’s national squash coach Cyrus Poncha has expressed his aim to host more Professional Squash Association (PSA) events in India in near future. Poncha has also added that organising big tournaments will help in changing the entire system associated with the sport in the country.
The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) is undertaking some major steps to ensure that the standard of squash and squash players improve in India. The most important one of all the steps is hosting more number of PSA events in the country in the coming year. India had organised only a couple of PSA events in the last year and now the SRFI plans to host around 12 PSA Challenger tournaments for both men and women.
Stressing on the importance of the PSA events, national squash coach Cyrus Poncha has stated that with a number of PSA events in the country, the game will be benefitted a lot.
“All of our top and mid-level players are going outside India to play PSA events. We want to have PSA events in India,” Poncha told Sportstar.
“It will not benefit a Saurav or Joshna right now because they are playing higher level, but having more events in the country and bringing in top international players and events will but it will benefit the complete ecosystem.”
The national coach has also confirmed that the plans are to be approved by the sports ministry and once it is done, the association will host the first PSA tournament in August this year.
