Indian paddlers win four bronze medals in Thailand Junior and Cadet Open

India’s table tennis contingent had a good day at the Thailand Junior and Cadet Open as the colts entered into the semi-finals of the tournament ensuring as many as four bronze medals. The paddlers excelling participated from the Hope Boys and Hope Girls school and the Junior Boys’ school.

Hope Boys’ Singles players Oishik Ghosh defeated Hong Kong’s prodigy Masa Hiko Yan 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the ITTF Junior Golden series tournament to assure a medal round. However, he couldn’t keep up the momentum in the semis where he was facing Singapore’s Tan Nicholas by an identical margin. 

Ashish Jain of Hope Boy Singles also triumphed in the quarter-final where he clashed against Thailand’s Woraset Bavornthammarat and defeated him 3-0 in quite an impressive manner. He was up against Singapore’s Le Ellworth in the semi-finals and he too couldn’t overcome that challenge going down 1-3 to win a bronze.

From Hope Girls’ Singles was participating Sayani Panda and unlike her male compatriots, she didn’t have it very easy in the quarter-finals. She had to dig deep to overcome Maldives’ Fathimath Dheema Ali 3-2 in a close match before finding a similar fate in the semis where he lost 0-3 to Sum Yee Samm Law of Hong Kong.

From the Cadet category, India 1 team saw Manush Shah, Reagan Albuquerque, and Deepit Patil also managed into the last four with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Chinese Taipei 1. However, facing Singapore 1 in the semis, they had to bow out with a 0-3 loss.
