Rafael Nadal has expressed his interest in becoming the president of La Liga giants Real Madrid. The 30-year-old, who has been a lifelong fan of the Blancos, has praised current president Florentino Perez but has hinted that he is open to the possibility of taking up the role in future.

The former World no.1 has had a long-standing interest in football, and Real Madrid have been his favorite club. Back in 2010, he became a shareholder of RCD Mallorca, his local club by birth, in an attempt to assist the club from debt. Nadal, who owns 10 percent share at Mallorca, was offered the role of vice-president at the club, but he turned it down back then. Of course, interest in football flows from his family – his paternal uncle Miguel Angel Nadal is a Barcelona and Mallorca legend.

Speaking to Marca about the prospect of becoming the president of Real Madrid, Nadal said, “Of course I'd like to be Real Madrid president. You never know what'll happen in the future.”

However, he was quick to praise current Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who is having his second stint at the helm of the club after being re-elected in 2009. “Anyhow, we have a great president now and I don't think Real Madrid will need me,” Nadal added.
