German tennis player Luca Gelhardt has received a ban of eight months and has to pay a fine of USD 7000 after the accusation against the player of betting on matches proved genuine. The Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) has confirmed that Gelhardt had placed 280 bets on the matches.

Further information has been relayed by TIU that Gelhardt had used three different gambling accounts online for executing his purpose. The action was carried on between December 2012 and November 2015, though he has not gambled in a single match he himself played.

The TIU relieved the player by stating that if he follows the rules laid down by the sport’s anti-corruption programme without any fail, his ban would be reduced by half and he'll have to pay a fine of USD 3,500 which is half of the original amount he was required to pay.

“Assuming no further disciplinary violations are incurred, he will be eligible to compete again from December 16, 2018,” the TIU revealed in a statement.

Aged 23, with a world ranking of 1,065, Gelhardt has earned USD 11,775 as prize money in his career so far, while making USD 3,000 in 2018.
