India ace Yuki Bhambri has managed to qualify for the main draw of the Queen’s Club Championships after beating James Ward and Tony Fritz in the qualifying rounds. Bhambri beat British wild card entry Ward 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 and American Fritz 6-4, 6-2 to seal a spot in the main draw in London.

Bhambri enjoyed a direct entry to the 2018 French Open where he ultimately succumbed to Ruben Bemelmans in straight sets in the first round itself. The youngster then entered the doubles draw with compatriot Divij Sharan and the pair advanced to the second round before they lost to second seeds and eventual finalists Oliver Marach and Mate Pavić.

Bhambri has bounced back from that disappointing outing as he managed to qualify for the main draw at the Queen’s Club Championships, now known as the Fever Tree Championships in London. Bhambri stormed back from a set down to beat James Ward 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in 1 hour 41 minutes.

Yuki then carried on the same form to beat higher-ranked Tony Fritz in straight sets by a score of 6-2, 6-4 and seal a spot in the main draw which will see Andy Murray make his long-awaited return to the Tennis court after recovering from a hip-injury.

The top ranked Indian began the grass season on a good note, as he reached the quarter-finals of the Surbiton Challenger. But Bhambri failed to sustain that level at the Libema Open in the Netherlands the following week and crashed out of this ATP 250 tournament in the first round.
