India’s No.1 women's singles player, Karman Kaur Thandi won her first ITF pro circuit singles title as she defeated Jia Jing Lu of China at Hong Kong ITF 02A tournament. Karman, who has 3 ITF doubles title to her name, made it to the semi-final of the event with her partner Tessah Andrianjafitrimo.

Karman Kaur Thandi made full use of her dominating form as she won her first singles title at the ITF pro circuit on Friday when she beat top-seeded Chinese Jia-Jing Lu 6-1 6-2 to clinch the trophy. Karman, who is ranked 261st in Women’s Tennis Association rankings, earned 50 points for her efforts.

Thandi won her maiden singles title on the ITF Pro circuit after demolishing Jia-Jing Lu’s challenge in straight sets in the final of the USD 25,000 Hong Kong event. The second Indian beat the top-seeded Chinese 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the trophy.

The 20-year-old Delhi girl did not drop a single set in her campaign and continued similar display against Jia Jing in final, where she hit 5 aces and won an equal number of break points on her way to an easy win.

Karman, ranked 261 in WTA rankings, was playing Jia-Jing, ranked 185 for the second time. She previously registered a win in the Navi Mumbai event last year. Although the 28-year-old Chinese has won 16 ITF singles title in her career, she proved no match to Karman, who earned 50 ranking points for her title-winning effort.

Karman, who has already won three ITF doubles titles, bowed out in the semi-final of the doubles event with her partner Tessah Andrianjafitrimo of Thailand after losing to Lee Pei-Chi and Jessy Rompies 6-2 7-5.
