India had a bad day in the office on Saturday with big hopes Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal getting eliminated from the Nanchang and Tallahassee Challenger respectively. 20-year-old Pranjala, however, kept her hopes alive with a win over Maryna Chernyshova in the $25,000 ITF event in Andijan.

Ramanathan was having a promising run at the Nanchang event with straight-set wins over China’s R. Te, Z. Zhang, and Japan’s K. Uchida before he faced Australia’s top seed Jordan Thompson in the semis. However, he couldn’t extend his streak losing 6-7 (2), 3-6, and thereby postponing his first title even further.

Nagal was up against France’s Corentin Moutet in the quarter-final of the Tallahassee Challenger and approached the match with brimming confidence after beating the likes of D. Yevseyev, S. Giraldo, and J Arconada. However, the third-seeded Frenchman got the better of the Indian despite the match going to the deciding set to win it 2-6, 6-1, 5-7.

At the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 Hungarian Open, India saw yet another upset with top seeds Rohan Bopanna and Dominic Inglot going down against Ernests Gulbis and Andre Begemann 3-6, 4-6.

The only highlight of the day was Pranjala Yadlapalli, who is returning from an injury setback and made it to her first final of the season of the $25,000 ITF event in Uzbekistan. She defeated Maryna Chernyshova 7-6 (5), 7-5 to set up a final clash with Kamilla Chernyshova, hoping to lift her $25,000 ITF trophy. Pranjala has previously won titles in Lagos, Nigeria, and debuted at the Mumbai Open in 2018.

In other events, Arjun Kadhe and Vijay Sundar Prashanth defeated Danylo Kalenichenko and Niels Lootsma 6-3, 6-2 to reach the final of the $25,000 ITF event in Abuja, Nigeria. Sixth-seeded Prithvi Sekhar has also reached the final of the Asian Tennis Tour Asian Ranking Men’s Tennis Championships by beating Raghav Jaisinghani 6-3, 6-0. He would now be facing Ishaque Eqbal.
