ATP Los Kabos | Prajnesh Gunneswaran makes second-round exit, loses to Taylor Fritz

Prajnesh Gunneswaran’s run in the ATP Los Kabos event came to an early end as he went down to America’s World No. 28 Taylor Fritz as he pocketed USD 12,825 as prize money. Apart from him, while Divij Sharan won his clash alongside doubles partner Leander Paes went down in Washington.

Gunneswaran had won the first set 6-4 quite easily and looked confident to go into the next round before he fluffed his breaking opportunities. It reduced his vibrancy and eventually he lost 6-4, 3-6, 2-6. However, he has managed to earn 20 points that would help him gain two places on the rankings table. 

In other matches, Sharan and his partner Jonathan Erlich got an easy win against fourth-seeded pair of Ben McLachlan and John-Patrick Smith 7-5, 6-1 to progress to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament. Indian veteran Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna were playing their respective points in the ATP 500 Citi Open in Washington, and both of them lost their matches.

While the wild card pairing of Paes and Jack Sock lost 5-7, 2-6 to Australia’s Alex de Minaur and John Peers, Bopanna and his partner Benoit Paire fell in the second round lost 6-2, 3-6, 7-10 to Matthew Ebden and Nicholas Monroe.
