Saketh Myneni’s brilliant run at the Jerusalem Challenger came to a screeching halt after he went down 3-6, 1-6 in straight sets against Canada’s Filip Peliwo. With Sasi Kumar Mukund also getting ousted in the quarter-final yesterday, India’s contention in the tournament is now over.

Playing an opponent ranked 57 spots below him, it was a really good chance for Myneni to make it to the final of a challenger. However, things were to go south and signs were given from the very third game of the first set itself when the Indian was broken by the Canadian to trail 2-1.

Peliwo didn’t falter on his part though winning all his service games that piled up the pressure on the Indian and Myneni was broken yet again in the ninth game to lose the first set 6-3. The second set was another chance to get back into the match but Myneni looked all the more brittle rather than determined.

He was broken in the second game of the second set, trailing 1-3 by the fourth game and the match was slipping from his hands in no time. And the pressure didn’t do him any good either as he went on to lose the sixth game as well to lose the set 6-1.
