Mansi Ahlawat's dreams of claiming the gold were crushed as she lost to Japan's Akei Hanai in the finals of the Asian Wrestling to land herself a silver. As a national champion in the 57 kg category, Mansi wanted to establish her influence at the continental level through the Asian Wrestling.

Throughout the event, Mansi was a dominating force with her father Pawan Ahlawat and coach Mandeep by her side. However, her dream of conquering the finale was dropped as she remained incapable of subduing Japan's Akei Hanai to whom she lost 10-0, via technical superiority.

“I never thought I would lose 10-0. My father and Mandeep are travelling with me and I wanted to win the gold medal. I had never wrestled the Japanese wrestler before. This was not the way it should have ended,” Mansi was quoted as saying by Scroll.

In the past four years, Mansi has been training with her sister Khushi at the Chotu Ram Stadium in Rohtak, which is known to be a training group for Sakshi Malik as well before she joined the Rio Olympics Campaign. Initially, they were training there as potential gymnasts, but gradually their interest veered towards wrestling.

At the Asian Wrestling, Mansi had a firm holding throughout the event. She overwhelmed Nadia Narin 10-0 and Zhanerka Assanova 11-0 via technical superiority in the first two bouts of the Championship. She had also grabbed a silver at the Asian Cadet Championships after getting defeated by Ozaki Nonoka in the final, earlier this year.

“I wanted to win here but now the focus will be on the Junior World Championship which is still two months away. There will be trials for that and I have to win it,” she said.

Mansi will be back to practice at the Rohtak Stadium after next week. For now, she is going to spend the weekend in Sheria village in Jhajjar district.
