Greco Roman wrestler Sajan Bhanwal bagged his second World Championship medal as he won a silver at the 2018 Junior Wrestling World Championships in Trnava, Slovakia in the 77kg category. Another Indian wrestler Vijay clinched bronze in the 55kg category at the championships.

Bhanwal was defeated by Russia’s Islam Opiev 0-8 in the final inside two minutes and the Junior Asian champion had to settle down for a silver. Earlier in the Championship, he won his semi-final bout against Ukraine’s Dmtryo Gardubei with a good score of 4-1. With the silver, Bhanwal has become the first Greco Roman wrestler from the country to win two medals in the World Championships having won a bronze medal in the same category previously.

“The draw was such that I had easier path to final but it is still tough so I had a really good shot at winning the gold here. But I could not and now I will try to improve and get more medals,” Sajan said after bout, reported The Scroll.

After losing his semi-final bout, Vijay defeated Cihat Ahmet Liman of Turkey 16-8 in the third place playoff to claim a bronze. Another Indian wrestler with the same name Vijay has also qualified for the final of the 60kg category by defeating Ali Reza Nejati of Iran and will meet Turkey's Kerem Kamal in the summit clash.
