UP Dangal’s Jitender, who is competing in the 74 kg category in the ongoing season of the Pro Wrestling League, revealed that the international competition has helped in the development of young Indian wrestlers. Jitender also added that in his opinion he has become a more complete wrestler now.

Jitender, who won the silver medal in the 74kg category at the national championship in Gonda back in December 2012, has revealed his love for wrestling and how the PWL has helped develop young talent in the Indian cities in TOI coloumn.

"Wrestling is everything to me. It is in my blood and is an ultimate matter of pride for me. Each day, I not only work on my techniques, attacks & defenses, but also my conduct as a wrestler, to which the Pro Wrestling League has certainly been of help. The level of experience we get here is so progressive, it has helped us develop more rapidly into fitter, faster athletes. Where I come from —Bhoopniya village in Haryana — each match of the league is seen by thousands every day," Jitender said.

Earlier in his career, the UP Dangal wrestler was slapped with a two-year suspension and the grappler’s fledgling career looked over even before it had started. However, Jitender has recovered from the setback and has set a goal of performing on the wrestling mat regularly.

"It’s not just about performing for myself; I also carry the hopes of many, and so, leave no stone unturned to give my best. Be it my practice or diet. Looking at my four matches this season, I was blocked in one match but defeated European champion bronze medalist Vasil Mikhailov as well as Indian Sachin Rathi. I then lost to world champion Khetik Tsabolov. Looking back on my previous experiences with the league compared to now, I feel I have become technically more sound and potentially stronger.

The UP Dangal's are doing reasonably well this season as they beat MP Yodha by a score of 5-2 last time around. Jitender & Co. will look to repeat the same as they go up against NCR Royal Punjab on February 28.

"Today, I go up against Punjab Royal’s Amit Dhanker who won his last match against Praveen Rana in a very close battle with the score ending 4-2. I saw the match on television and noted my observations accordingly which should reflect in tonight’s match," the wrestler concluded.
