Indian archers fail to impress at the ongoing Archery World Cup Stage II in Shanghai as they couldnā€™t qualify for the medal rounds in individual and team events in both recurve and compound sections. India will now hope to claim a medal only in the mixed pair events of both the sections.Ā

The menā€™s recurve team with Jagdish Choudhary, Chaman Singh and Sukhchain Singh were beaten by lower-ranked team from Bangladesh 1-5. The archers couldnā€™t do well in the second and third set of the game after getting off to a good start in the first one and lost the quarter-final tie. On the other hand, the recurve womenā€™s team also lost to the USA side by a 2-6 margin to get knocked out of the World Cup.Ā

The Indian compound menā€™s team had a miserable start as they failed to cross the first round in the competition by losing to New Zealand 220-223. The compound womenā€™s team had a poor day at the office as well as the team of Parveena, Monali Jadhav and Priya Gurjar lost 219-231 against Chinese Taipei.

In the individual section, Vakilraj Dindor lost in the pre-quarterfinal round against Wei Chun-Heng of Chinese Taipei 3-7 in the menā€™s recurve while Ankita Bhakat lost to Chinaā€™s Meng Fanxu in the same round as well among the women. Preeti was knocked out off the competition by Naomi Folkard of Great Britain 4-6 in the third round.

Gurwinder Singh went down to Danie Oosthuizen of Australia 146-149 in the third round in menā€™s compound event. On the other hand, among the female compound archers, Monali Jadhav was beaten 140-144 by USAā€™s Alexis Ruiz.

Indiaā€™s only chance of coming back with a medal from Shanghai is the mixed pair event in both the recurve and compound sections of the World Cup Stage II.
