World Archery has delisted the Archery Association of India as a member and given it a month’s time to either abide by the rules or face a long-term suspension. WA said it will wait till July 31 before taking a final call as they await Supreme Court’s verdict on the controversial elections of AAI.
The international archery’s world body has decided to immediately delist the Archery Association of India (AAI) as a member. The international body has given the Indian association a month’s time until July 31 to either abide by WA’s rules & regulations or else risk a long-term suspension. The Archery body is currently waiting for the Supreme Court’s verdict on the controversial elections of the AAI that were held recently.
“(World Archery) Executive Board has decided that there is sufficient evidence that the AAI is in breach of Articles 1.4.2.4 and 1.4.2.5.1. of the World Archery Constitution and Rules and, specifically, the last bullet point of 1.4.2.5.1 Article requiring good governance.
“As a result India is not listed as Member Association since currently there are as far as World Archery is concerned no legal representation. World Archery will monitor until the July 31. The EB will then re-examine the situation based on the outcome (of the court’s verdict),” a two-page decision of the WA accessed by PTI said.
However, the decision to delist AAI will not prevent Indian archers from taking part in international events under the national flag in competitions for which entries have already been made. At present, the final entries have already been made for the Berlin Archery World Cup Stage (July 1-7) and Tokyo Olympics Test Event (July 11-18). In addition to that, a preliminary entry of 24-member squad has been made for the Madrid World Archery Youth Championships (August 19-25).
