Fastest man on earth yesterday said that he is “heartbroken” at the turn of events after teammate Nesta Carter failed a dope test from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The sprinter, however, said that he would return the medal if confirmed after expressing his empathy towards what Cater is going through.

Nesta Carter ran the first leg the 4x100 relay race at the Beijing Olympics which Jamaica had won. The quartet had set a world record of 37.1 seconds en route to the Gold.

However, traces of banned substance Methylhexaneamine were found in Carter's 'B' sample after the IOC ordered retesting of hundreds of samples from the event after eight years.

"It's heartbreaking, for years you've worked hard to accumulate gold medals and you work hard to be a champion, so it's heartbreaking but it's one of those things," Bolt told local The Gleaner newspaper on Sunday.

"Things happen in life, if it's confirmed or whatever and I need to give back my gold medal, it's not a problem to me."

Carter and his teammates, Michael Frater, Asafa Powell, and Usain Bolt will stand to lose their medals if the official reports are announced. However, it is not clear whether the rest will lose their medals as IOC spokesman Mark Adams had refrained from commenting saying, "It is still being worked out.

“What we want to do, and are trying to do, is target athletes who have positive results and stop them from competing in Rio," reported Reuters.

Bolt, who is gearing up for the Rio Olympics, meanwhile, expressed his sympathy for teammate Carter.

"It must be hard, I can't tell what he's going through but it must be hard and frustrating," Bolt said.
