India Judo players shine at the Youth Commonwealth Games

Indian junior judokas won a gold and three bronze medals in the ongoing Commonwealth Youth Games being held in the Bahamas. Soni won the gold medal in the below 73Kg Weight Category, after beating Nikolic Uros of Australia in the final bout, while Ashish won a bronze in the below 60Kg category.

The introduction of Judo in the Youth Commonwealth games saw, Judokas from Australia, Scotland, India and Zambia also finish on top of the podium. Indian youth grabbed the limelight with clinching 3 bronze medals and 1 gold medal. 

Soni from India won a Gold medal after defeating Nikolic by 01-00 in the 73 Kgs weight category. Following that was a bronze medal won by Ashish after defeating Zain of England by 10-00 in the 60 Kg weight category. 

In the girls’ category, the Indian girls stood out clinching two bronze medals at the event. Antim Yadav won bronze after defeating Russell Jasmine by 2-0 in the 48 Kg weight category. Chanam Rebina Devi was another name that grabbed the bronze medal in the 57 Kg weight category after defeating Saskia.

In the debut of Judo as a sport in Youth Commonwealth Games India clinched a total of 4 medals.
