After a successful first edition last year at the International Association of Athletics Federations’ Global Run Delhi 24-1, the Athletic Federation of India has named ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra as their city captain. In the last edition, quarter-miler Paramjit Singh was named the skipper.

India’s star javelin thrower, who won the gold medal at the Commonwealth and Asian Games last year, has been amongst the 24 athletes who have been selected to promote IAAF's global initiative. The second edition of the IAAF Run 24-1 has been scheduled from June 2.

It was New Delhi that had successfully conducted the event last year and would be taking over the reign yet again this time of organizing the 24 one-mile run. The AFI has proposed to the Territorial Army (TA) that this event could be considered as a curtain raiser for Territorial Army & Athletics Federation of India Run (TAAFI RUN) which is the Official National Marathon of India approved by the AFI in partnership with TA.

Over 12,000 runners had participated in the first IAAF Run 24:1 edition in 2018 and it is only expected to increase across the 24 host cities. The unique 24-Hour event would start from Fiji and end in Los Angeles, while travelling across cities like Vancouver, Toronto, Lima, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Havana, Buenos Aires, Abidjan, Praia, Johannesburg, Nice, Berlin, Minsk, Addis Ababa, Ramallah, Bangkok, Auckland, Melbourne, Tokyo, Beijing, Singapore, New Delhi and London.
