Special Olympics World Games | PM Narendra Modi congratulates athletes for incredible achievement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the participating athletes in the Special Olympics World Games after they returned home with as many as 368 medals. The Indian contingent, which had 284 athletes, managed to win 85 gold medals and 154 silver medals across various events.

The Summer Games recently concluded in Abu Dhabi on March 21, Thursday, as India completed one of their most successful campaigns on the global stage. Returning with a whopping 368 medals, India saw their powerlifters snatching most of it with 20 gold medals, 33 silver medals, and also 43 bronze.

Following them were the roller skaters who managed 49 medals, which included 13 gold, 20 silver, and 16 bronze medals. India did well in cycling too bagging 25 medals - 11 gold, 14 silver, and 20 bronze. The track and field athletes made the nation proud once again coming home with 39 medals - 5 gold, 24 silver, and 10 bronze.

India ended with 85 gold medals, and 154 silver, and 129 bronze medals and PM Modi sounded ecstatic as he took to Twitter to appreciate the athletes. His post read: “Today is a proud day for India! Our contingent at the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi has won a historic 368 medals including 85 Golds. Congratulations to all the medalists. Their fortitude and accomplishments inspire millions.”

“The success of every athlete who participated in the Special Olympics World Games will motivate countless other sport persons to pursue and excel on the sports field. I would also like to congratulate the families and coaches of the medal winners for their invaluable support,” he further wrote.
