After winning the Swiss Open last week, Indian shuttler H S Prannoy jumped seven places up to reach World No.20 in the latest BWF rankings released on Thursday. Kidambi Srikanth continued at 10th, while in women’s singles, Saina Nehwal and P V Sindhu remained 6th and 11th respectively.
23-year old Prannoy had defeated German shuttler Marc Zwiebler 21-18, 21-15 at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, last Sunday to win the second title of his career. The Indian gained 4,340 points with the win to jump seven places up in the rankings to reach No.20. With the top 16 players qualifying automatically, Prannoy will have a golden chance to qualify for the Olympics if he can continue his good run in the Indian Open Super Series, which is scheduled to be held from March 29 to April 3 at New Delhi.
Kidambi Srikanth remained the highest-ranked Indian in men’s singles at 10th, while Parupalli Kashyap slipped one place down to 18th in the rankings after missing the Swiss Open through injury. Ajay Jayaram slipped four places down to 24th, and Sameer Verma rose one place to reach 35th in the rankings.
In the women’s singles, Saina Nehwal and P V Sindhu remained static at 6th and 11th respectively.
