Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu moved into the second round of the Denmark Open Superseries with a 21-14, 21-19 win over China's He Bingjiao. Ajay Jayaram and HS Prannoy also won their respective opening round matches.

However, B Sai Praneeth and the men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy fell by the wayside in what was a mixed day for India.

It was sixth-seeded Sindhu’s first outing after the Rio Olympics and the Indian was convincing in her victory over the world No 11 Chinese who held a 3-1 head-to-head record going into the clash.

After winning the opening game easily, Sindhu was pushed hard in the second but managed to hold her nerves. She will next meet world No12 Sayaka Sato of Japan.

Jayaram, runner-up at the recent Dutch Open, beat Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana 21-15, 21-16 and will take on Dane Jorgensen next.

Injury-prone Prannoy registered a hard-fought 21-13, 19-21, 22-20 win over Malaysia's Wei Feng Chong in a match that lasted 63 minutes. The Indian will play the winner of the match between top seed Malaysian Lee Chong Wei and Hong Kong's Wei Nan.

Meanwhile, Sai Praneeth lost narrowly to Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 17-21, 21-19, 15-21 and Attri and Sumeeth Reddy went down 10-21, 19-21 to Denmark's Kim Aastrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
